The three colors of this flag date to the Qajar era, and the emblem of the Lion and Sun—historically associated with King Jamshid and symbolizing sovereignty—has served as a national symbol of Iran throughout various historical periods. In the Qajar era, the Lion and Sun emblem was officially registered together with a sword.
