Manifesto of the Environmental Party of Iran
Preamble
The Iran Green Party is founded on the principles of Green Social Liberalism and is committed to freedom, equality, democracy, nationalism, pluralism, secularism, social justice, human rights, the rule of law, sustainable development, environmental protection, conservation of natural resources, and the territorial integrity of Iran. The Party’s goal is to contribute to building a free, prosperous, secure, just, and sustainable Iran for present and future generations.
The Iran Green Party believes that economic development, social justice, national security, environmental protection, and the conservation of natural resources are complementary and inseparable objectives, and that sustainable progress can only be achieved when these principles are pursued in a balanced manner.
Article 1: Human Dignity and Human Rights
Human dignity, fundamental freedoms, and the legal equality of all citizens constitute the foundation of the society envisioned by the Iran Green Party. The Party regards the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as one of the most important foundations for legislation and policymaking in a future Iran and emphasizes the equality of all citizens before the law.
The Party rejects any form of discrimination based on religion, faith, ethnicity, language, gender, sexual orientation, beliefs, place of residence, or any other personal characteristic. The Iran Green Party supports the abolition of the death penalty and its replacement with punishments consistent with human rights principles and human dignity. The Party supports the right to legal counsel, fair trials, and the protection of the rights of defendants and prisoners in accordance with international human rights standards.
Article 2: Democracy, Secularism, and the Rule of Law
The Iran Green Party believes in establishing a secular system based on the rule of law. The separation of religion from the state, an independent judiciary, free and fair elections, governmental transparency, accountability of public officials, effective oversight of law enforcement, and the fight against corruption are among the Party’s fundamental principles.
The Party considers combating corruption, rent-seeking, monopolies, misuse of public resources, conflicts of interest, and all forms of unlawful exploitation of political and economic power to be essential pillars of good governance, public trust, social justice, and sustainable national development.
The Party recognizes the sovereignty of the people and the right of the Iranian nation to self-determination as the source of legitimacy for any political system.
Article 3: Democratic Transition
The Iran Green Party considers the Islamic Republic to be incompatible with the principles of freedom, human rights, the rule of law, national interests, and sustainable development. The Party regards the transition from the Islamic Republic and the establishment of a secular and democratic system based on human rights, the rule of law, and the free will of the people as one of its fundamental objectives.
The Party organizes its political activities toward achieving popular sovereignty, fundamental freedoms, social justice, environmental protection, and the advancement of national interests. To achieve these goals, it relies on civil resistance and nonviolent struggle.
The Party believes that the future of Iran should be determined by the free will of its people and that all citizens have the right to participate in shaping the country’s political system and development path.
Article 4: Political System and National Unity
The Iran Green Party considers a secular democratic republic to be the most suitable model of governance for Iran. However, it recognizes that the final decision regarding the form of the country’s political system belongs to the people of Iran and should be determined through a free, informed, democratic, and fair vote.
The Party emphasizes the preservation of national independence, Iran’s territorial integrity, national unity, and the protection of national interests. Iran’s national identity is founded upon equal citizenship, the participation of all Iranians, and the country’s shared historical, cultural, and civilizational heritage.
While committed to nationalism and the defense of national interests, the Party regards pluralism as a pillar of democratic society and respects Iran’s cultural, social, and intellectual diversity. The Party considers the participation of all Iranians essential to the country’s progress, prosperity, and sustainable development.
Article 5: Free Market Economy, Social Justice, and Public Welfare
The Party supports a competitive free-market economy, economic transparency, the protection of private property, private-sector development, productive investment, entrepreneurship, innovation, and fair competition.
At the same time, it considers the state responsible for ensuring equal opportunities, expanding public welfare, reducing inequality, maintaining a sustainable social safety net, and guaranteeing universal access to education, healthcare, and social services.
Article 6: Decentralization and Balanced Development
The Party believes in administrative decentralization, strengthening local and regional governance, and promoting balanced development across all regions of the country. It considers these measures essential for achieving justice, improving government efficiency, and advancing national progress.
This policy must be implemented within the framework of national unity, national sovereignty, and the territorial integrity of Iran.
Article 7: Women, Children, and Family
The Party believes in full legal, civil, political, economic, and social equality between women and men and considers any form of gender discrimination contrary to justice, human dignity, and sustainable development.
The Party supports the equal participation of women at all levels of decision-making, management, and national leadership.
Children are the most valuable asset of Iran’s future. The Party is committed to defending their rights and ensuring access to quality education, health, security, welfare, and protection against all forms of violence, exploitation, and discrimination.
The family, as one of the fundamental institutions of society, deserves legal, social, and economic support.
Article 8: Education, Linguistic Diversity, and Culture
The Party considers education one of the most important tools for human development and national progress and emphasizes equal access to quality education for all citizens.
The Party supports the right to learn, teach, and promote Iran’s local and ethnic languages alongside Persian, which serves as the common language of all Iranian citizens. It regards linguistic diversity as part of the country’s cultural heritage and national wealth.
The Iran Green Party considers the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of all peoples of Iran to be a national responsibility toward future generations and one of the country’s most valuable assets.
Article 9: Science, Technology, and the Knowledge-Based Economy
The Party considers the advancement of science, research, technology, innovation, and the knowledge-based economy to be key drivers of national progress. It supports the responsible use of modern technologies in the service of public welfare, economic development, and environmental protection.
Article 10: Environment, Natural Resources, and Sustainable Development
Environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources are the core mission of the Iran Green Party.
The Party considers sustainable development essential for national security, public health, social welfare, and the protection of future generations’ interests. It emphasizes the protection, restoration, and responsible management of the country’s natural resources, including water resources, soil, forests, rangelands, wetlands, rivers, seas, biodiversity, and ecosystems.
The Party regards combating air pollution, water pollution, soil contamination, and environmental degradation as national priorities and supports the development and enforcement of strict environmental standards to protect public health.
The Party supports the expansion of renewable energy, increased energy efficiency, reduced dependence on polluting fuels, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and the development of clean technologies.
The Party considers energy security a prerequisite for sustainable development, public welfare, economic competitiveness, and the protection of national interests. It supports the balanced and responsible development of Iran’s energy portfolio, including renewable energy and other energy sources compatible with environmental, economic, and security requirements.
Sustainable water management, reforming consumption patterns, preventing soil erosion, combating desertification, protecting forests and rangelands, restoring wetlands and rivers, promoting sustainable agriculture, ensuring food security, and safeguarding the country’s natural reserves are among the Party’s primary priorities.
The Party considers the development of clean public transportation, the expansion of low-emission and electric vehicles, improved fuel quality, reduced urban pollution, and the creation of sustainable, people-centered cities to be essential for national development.
The Party supports scientific waste management, recycling, waste reduction, the circular economy, and the efficient use of resources.
The Party regards the gradual transition of Iran’s economy toward a green and low-carbon economy as one of the country’s principal sustainable development strategies.
The Party also emphasizes safeguarding the rights of future generations, combating climate change, protecting animal rights, preserving wildlife and plant species, and strengthening environmental education and awareness at all levels of society.
Article 11: Foreign Policy
The Party seeks an Iran that is peaceful, responsible, and trustworthy within the international community. It supports a balanced foreign policy, constructive engagement with the world, respect for international law, the defense of national interests, and the expansion of international cooperation.
The Party considers Iranians living abroad to be an inseparable part of the Iranian nation and emphasizes maintaining and strengthening national, cultural, scientific, and economic ties with them.
The Party supports the participation of Iranians worldwide in the country’s political, economic, scientific, cultural, and environmental development and regards their knowledge, experience, expertise, and human capital as valuable assets for Iran’s progress.
Article 12: National Security and Defense
The Party considers the establishment of professional, modern, national, and accountable armed forces essential. Such forces should operate on the basis of defensive deterrence, national protection, citizen security, and the defense of the constitution.
The armed forces must refrain from involvement in politics, economic activities, and foreign conflicts and serve solely the nation, the law, and the national interest.
Concluding Statement
The Iran Green Party, relying on collective wisdom, national participation, and social responsibility, strives to build a free, just, developed, and sustainable Iran—an Iran in which freedom, equality, the rule of law, effective oversight of law enforcement, social justice, a dynamic economy, national security, a healthy environment, and sustainable natural resources provide the foundation for a dignified life and a bright future for all citizens.
